Why Are Polyurethane Wheels Abrasion Resistant?

Soft segments: Provide high elasticity, acting like concrete that can undergo large deformations to absorb and dissipate impact energy.

This combination gives polyurethane both the elasticity of rubber and the strength of plastic, laying the foundation for its wear resistance.

2. Dual Anti-Wear Mechanisms: Tailored Strategies for Different "Enemies"

Polyurethane's wear resistance also changes its strategy depending on the operating conditions. Research shows that the relationship between its elastic modulus and wear resistance is not fixed, but rather involves a pair of "competing factors."

Low-load conditions (e.g., hand trucks, skateboards): Under these conditions, a low elastic modulus (higher elasticity) is the key. When facing abrasives like small stones or rough surfaces, high elasticity allows the wheel surface to have a larger real contact area with the abrasives, thereby dispersing pressure and avoiding localized stress concentration that leads to wear.

High-load conditions (e.g., forklifts, heavy equipment): Under these conditions, high tensile strength becomes the decisive factor. When facing enormous compressive forces, a strong enough "skeleton" is needed to resist material tearing or gouging. In this scenario, a higher modulus actually reduces wear due to the smaller contact area.
