Key Considerations for Using 1/4" OD x 1/8" ID Polyurethane Tubing

1.Operating Temperature Range:

The typical operating temperature range for standard polyurethane tubing is approximately -20°C to +40°C.

Exceeding these limits will accelerate aging, causing the tubing to become overly soft or brittle. For prolonged use at high temperatures, always verify the specific temperature rating of the model being used.

2.Chemical Compatibility Verification:

While polyurethane offers good oil resistance, it is not resistant to strong acids, strong bases, or highly polar solvents such as ketones, esters, and halogenated hydrocarbons (e.g., acetone, dichloromethane, concentrated sulfuric acid, concentrated nitric acid).

Before use, it is essential to confirm the compatibility of the conveyed medium with the polyurethane material. Consult a chemical compatibility chart or conduct an immersion test if necessary.

3.Pressure and Vacuum:

Despite its good pressure resistance, the manufacturer's recommended maximum working pressure must never be exceeded.

Due to its excellent elasticity, it is also suitable for use in moderate vacuum environments.

4.Installation and Connection:

Because of its high elasticity, 1/4" OD x 1/8" ID Polyurethane Tubing is typically secured using push-in fittings (barbed fittings) paired with stainless steel spring clamps for an effective and secure seal.

To ease installation onto the fitting, moisten the tube end with a little water or a compatible lubricant. Never use petroleum-based grease, as it may degrade the tubing material.

Ensure an adequate bend radius is maintained. Avoid sharp bends, especially at the fitting base, to prevent kinking, collapse, or stress concentration that can lead to premature failure.

5.Other Environmental Factors:

Avoid prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light/sunlight, as this will cause gradual aging, discoloration, and surface chalking. For outdoor applications, select a UV-resistant grade or install a protective sleeve.

For applications involving extreme dynamic flexing or high-frequency pressure pulses, it is necessary to choose a specialized high-flex, fatigue-resistant grade of tubing.
