For PU air tubing for packaging machinery, production must follow strict standards, while usage requires a strong focus on dynamic fatigue, thermal aging, and friction wear.

1. Manufacturing requirements

The core requirements for producing PU air tubing for packaging machinery are as follows:

Material & structure: Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) must be used. Given the humid environments often found in packaging workshops, ether-based polyurethane (hydrolysis-resistant) is typically preferred over ester-based PU, which is prone to hydrolysis.

Dimensions & tolerances: Outer diameter, inner diameter, and wall thickness tolerances must be strictly controlled. This is critical for the push-to-connect fittings widely used in packaging machines - excessive tolerance can lead to poor sealing or difficulty in insertion.

Key performance: Must pass static hydraulic testing (including high-temperature testing), maximum working pressure, minimum bending radius, and UV aging tests.

Temperature adaptability: The recommended working temperature range for standard PU air tubing is typically -20°C to 40°C.

2. Usage precautions under packaging conditions

Packaging machinery (such as carton sealers and filling machines) features high-frequency reciprocating motion, potential high-temperature heat sources (sealing and cutting blades), and continuous friction. The following points require special attention during use:

1) Addressing high-speed dynamic fatigue & wear

Moving parts on packaging machines (robotic arms, oscillating cylinders) cause tubing to undergo thousands of bending and vibration cycles per hour. Although PU material is flexible, repeated folding at small bending radii over time leads to material fatigue.

Countermeasures: Pipe routing must maximize bending radius and avoid sharp kinks. At friction hotspots such as metal brackets and right-angle edges, spiral protective sleeves or wear-resistant wraps are recommended to prevent wall penetration.

2) Guarding against heat sources & thermal aging

PU air tubing for packaging machinery is temperature-sensitive. Proximity to heat-sealing heads, heating plates, or cutting blades (even at distances of just 3-5 cm) accelerates hardening, embrittlement, and even rupture.

Countermeasures: In high-temperature areas, install thermal insulation corrugated sleeves or switch to higher-temperature-resistant nylon (PA) tubing. If welding sparks are present on site, routing must avoid them or provide adequate protection.

3) Preventing pressure pulsation & instantaneous peaks

Frequent pneumatic actions in packaging machines generate pressure pulsations. The tubing undergoes slight expansion and contraction, which over time intensifies friction wear against surrounding contact surfaces.

Countermeasures: Confirm that the tubing's pressure rating (commonly around 0.8 MPa) accounts for pressure peak margins. If a pressure regulator fails and pressure surges directly, PU tubing may burst or expand excessively and detach.

4) Preventing chemical corrosion & hydrolysis

Although standard PU offers some resistance to oils, if cutting fluids, lubricants, or coolants splash directly onto the tubing on site, or if ambient humidity is excessively high (e.g., near bottle washing or cleaning stations), ordinary PU tubing is susceptible to swelling or hydrolytic degradation.

Countermeasures: Ensure tubing avoids direct spray paths of oil and liquids.

5) Strict installation practices

Cutting: Always use a dedicated tube cutter for a perpendicular cut. Never use pliers or scissors, as deformed cuts can cause push-to-connect fitting leaks.

Insertion: When inserting into push-to-connect fittings, push all the way in, then gently pull back to confirm locking. PU tubing expands in outer diameter under pressure. If reused and the OD exceeds tolerance (e.g., increased by more than 0.07 mm), reinsertion may fail - in this case, cut off the old inserted section and reinstall.
