The core functions of drive wheel polyurethane are to reliably transmit power through a high coefficient of friction, while leveraging its elastic properties to absorb shocks, reduce vibration, lower noise, and-thanks to its excellent wear resistance-withstand heavy loads, thereby extending the service life of both the wheel itself and the equipment track.
When it begins to underperform, the issue is no longer confined to the wheel alone-it triggers a chain reaction that compromises equipment efficiency and safety. The specific consequences are as follows:
1. Slippage and Power Interruption
Manifested as wear or aging of the polyurethane layer, resulting in a reduced coefficient of friction and consequent slippage between the wheel and the contact surface.
Potential consequences: The equipment may fail to start properly, climb inclines, or stop precisely. On shuttle carts, AGVs, and similar automated systems, this can lead to task failures or positioning inaccuracies.
2. Vibration, Noise, and Secondary Damage
Manifested as uneven rolling caused by surface damage or delamination of the wheel tread; once the polyurethane layer peels off, the underlying rigid metal wheel core comes into direct contact with the track.
Potential consequences: Severe jolting and abnormal noise occur, while the expensive equipment track undergoes accelerated wear-potentially to the point of total scrap.
3. Delamination and Structural Failure
Manifested as adhesive failure (delamination) between the polyurethane layer and the metal wheel core, resulting in detachment of the outer rubber layer.
Potential consequences: On cranes and similar heavy equipment, this may cause a reduction in operating height, asynchronous travel, and even collision with adjacent equipment or derailment-constituting a major safety hazard.
4. Accelerated Deterioration Due to Overheating
Manifested as heat buildup caused by "internal friction" during repeated deformation of the polyurethane. Under high loads and high speeds, accumulated heat accelerates material aging or promotes delamination.
Potential consequences: The drive wheel polyurethane may fail suddenly well below its expected service life, leading to unscheduled downtime and increased maintenance costs.
