Conditions That Indicate Replacement is Needed

Iron core polyurethane caster wheels in service require regular inspection (recommended first check after 3 months, then every 6 months). Replace immediately when any of the following conditions occur.

1) Wear (most common)

a) When the polyurethane tread is worn down to two-thirds of the single-side tread thickness.

b) Alternatively, when wear exceeds 30% of the original thickness and the tread becomes visibly uneven.

c) If the metal core is exposed, the polyurethane layer has completely failed and the wheel must be replaced immediately.

2) Cracking or grazing (danger signs)

d) Surface shows deep cracks, radial cracks, or extensive grazing.

Pay special attention to circular cracks near the wheel/axle connection area – this indicates the wheel may fracture during use at any time.

3) Debonding or delamination

e) Check the bonding interface between the metal core and the polyurethane layer. If you see edge lifting, delamination, bubbles, or peeling of the material, the bond has failed – stop using the wheel.

4) Chunking or "pitting"

f) The tread exhibits chunking (loss of pieces) or small missing sections, usually caused by impact or overloading.

5) Flat spot or deformation

a) Flat spot: A locally flattened area on the iron core polyurethane caster wheels, often caused by prolonged stationary heavy loading or sudden braking.

b) Deformation or dent: Sagging, out-of-round, or one-sided uneven wear.

c) Hardening or stickiness: The surface becomes hard and loses elasticity, or becomes tacky due to high temperature or chemical exposure.

6) Operational abnormalities (clear signs of performance failure)

d) Rotation resistance or abnormal noise: Difficult to push, accompanied by squeaking or grinding sounds.

e) Unstable rolling: Obvious wobbling, bouncing, or uneven rolling.

f) Slippage: Reduced grip; noticeable loss of traction when pushing.
